About James G. Davis Construction Corporation (DAVIS) Summer Internship Program

Company + Culture
DAVIS Construction is the largest general contractor that solely serves the Washington region, building over three-quarters of a billion dollars' worth of construction a year; including some of the region's most notable projects. The Washington Business Journal recently recognized DAVIS as one of the area's "Best Places to Work" for the eleventh consecutive year. Our interns are welcomed as employees, and immersed in a culture and professional environment where DAVIS leaders work to develop their potential. We ensure that our interns walk away with real-life, credible construction experience that they can build on.

Internship Program Philosophy
Each summer, we welcome an amazing group of college students to their DAVIS internship. From day one, our interns are part of the team. Through a variety of project types, at different stages of completion, they experience all aspects of construction and learn the critical soft and hard skills required to build environments and careers successfully.
Before they start, we ask the interns to specify if they want to be allocated to the field or office, and base their project assignment(s) on these preferences. The workload is similar to that of a Project Engineer, and the program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of practical project strategy - not only on the technical side, but also on the business side - learning the importance of team collaboration, company culture, client relationships and how to leverage these as they develop their experience.

Work Environment
Construction is our passion, and the cornerstone of DAVIS is construction operations. Each year our project teams oversee and execute 100+ complex projects across ten diverse market sectors, which means that there is no such thing as a typical day.

As part of a project team - onsite or in the office - our interns learn the most advanced approaches from preconstruction and estimating through to construction and close-out, in a supportive and collaborative team environment. By working along-side our project engineers, assistant project managers and project managers they learn how to effectively synthesize and organize information from architects, owners, subcontractors. By working closely with our superintendents, project managers and senior project managers they can contribute to how the project is managed.
