Application Process

All of our internships require candidates to submit college transcripts and must apply online.

Our internship opportunities are posted through Career Services at the colleges we are activiely recruiting at. In some instances our internship are posted on www.unionpacific.jobs.

If Union Pacific comes to your campus and you express interest in our positions, you should apply through your career services. After an application is submitted, you may be extended a first-round interview. If that interview is successful, you will be invited to a second-round interview at Union Pacific's headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, one of our 21 Service Unit's, or a phone interview.

If Union Pacific does not visit your college campus, you may apply online for one of our posted positions. This process takes about 30 minutes and allows you to submit your resume with the online application. When you are done, you will be able to check your application status online.

The majority of our internship position fulfillment happens during the fall college recruiting time. Any intern position not filled during the fall, will be recruited during the spring recruiting season.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications -

Candidates typically are full-time students currently enrolled at a college or university, pursuing an undergraduate degree or a graduate degree in a field of study that support UP's business objectives. All candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Finance Undergrad:

  • Working towards your Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Computer Science or Economics
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communications skills (both oral and written)
  • Have ability to learn UP's financial systems and databases in order to successfully accomplish desired project results.

Finance MBA:

  • Completed first year in an MBA program
  • Background and interest in financial analytical methods and techniques
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA, transcripts required

Information Technology Undergrad Internships

Software development, systems engineering, information assurance, SAP:

  • Working towards your Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (with software emphasis), or an IT-related field
  • Desired experience / skill sets:
    • Experience with application development
    • Coursework in one or more of the following areas: Data Structures, Database, Internet Development (HTML, Java), Object Oriented Programming, Hardware/Network
    • Computer skills include working knowledge of one or more of the following:
      • J2EE, JAVA, XML/XSL, HTML,C/C++, Visual Basic
      • Object-oriented design/development methodologies
      • Linux, UNIX, Windows Desktop and Server Operating Systems
      • Databases (Oracle Preferred), SQL
    • Strong communications skills (both oral and written)

Information Technology Undergrad Internships

Telecommunications (including network and communication systems design):

  • Working towards your Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering (with an electrical emphasis), Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Desired experience / skill sets:
    • Advanced computer skills with knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, internet navigation, C, C++, Java Programming languages, Linux, Windows OS, schematic capture/layout
    • Telecommunications background and/or the desire to learn and develop one.
    • Problem solving and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated leadership ability
    • Process management skills
    • Strong communications skills (both oral and written)

Marketing & Sales Undergrad:

  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree - junior status preferred
  • Good communication skills and/or customer relationship skills
  • interest in expanding analytical skills

Marketing & Sales MBA:

  • Working towards a MBA Degree - completed first year
  • Background and interest in analyzing product markets and making recommendations
  • Previous mid-management work experience
  • Leadership potential

Supply Undergraduate:

  • Working towards Bachelors degree - junior status
  • Background and interest in strategic sourcing, logistics, inventory management and financial/data analysis

Supply MBA:

  • Working towards MBA degree - completed first year
  • Background and interest in strategic sourcing, logistics, inventory management and financial/data analysis
