Employment for zoologists and wildlife biologists will grow more slowly than the average for all careers through 2024, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). Despite this prediction, the OOH says that "zoologists and wildlife biologists should have good job opportunities. In addition to job growth, many job openings will be created by zoologists and wildlife biologists who retire, advance to management positions, or change careers." Growth in the biological sciences should continue to increase in the coming years, spurred partly by the need analyze and offset the effects of pollution on the environment. Zoologists will continue to be needed to manage animal populations and conservation plans.
