Surveying and Mapping Technicians

Surveying and mapping technicians are expected to have improved job prospects if they are skilled in using new digital surveying and mapping technologies such as GPS and GIS. Overall, however, employment in this field is expected to decline by 8 percent through 2024, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). The advancements in surveying technology enable technicians to accomplish more work in less time, which reduces the number of technicians needed for the job.
