The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that overall employment for secretaries will grow slower than the average for all occupations through 2024, but job prospects vary by specialty. Industries such as health care and social assistance, local college and education services, satellite communication, and utility system construction will create the most new job opportunities. As is common with large occupations, the need to replace retiring workers will generate many openings.
