The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that in 2008 there were 38.7 million people in the United States who were age 65 or older. By 2030, nearly one in five U.S. residents is expected to be 65 or older; and by 2050, it's projected that there will be 88.5 million people over 65 years old. In addition, the population of 85 and older age group is expected to more than triple, growing from 5.4 million (in 2008) to 12 million by 2050. People are living longer due to advances in the medical and health care fields. Thus, the retirement planning field should grow at a faster than average rate, as more and more people will be demanding these services.
