Reporters collect information on newsworthy events and prepare stories for newspaper or magazine publication, for radio or television broadcast, or for publication on the Internet. The stories may simply provide information about local, state, or national events, or they may present opposing points of view on issues of current interest. In this latter capacity, the press plays an important role in monitoring the actions of public officials and others in positions of power.
