Political Reporters

The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that employment growth for reporters, correspondents, and broadcast news analysts will decline significantly through 2022. Consolidation in the newspaper and publishing industries is expected to continue. Employment for radio reporters will decline through 2022, while job opportunities for television reporters will grow about as fast as the average for all careers. Applicants will face strong competition for reporting positions in major broadcast markets. For beginning reporters, stations in smaller markets will provide the best opportunities. Occasionally, a beginner can use contacts and experience gained through internship programs and summer jobs to obtain a reporting job immediately after graduation.
