Employment for millwrights is expected to grow faster than the average for all careers through 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Millwrights will be needed to keep existing machinery in working order, dismantle outdated machinery, and install new equipment. The growth of the power industry is also expected to add some employment opportunities for millwrights, who will be needed to install and repair turbines on wind mills, coal plants, and hydroelectric dams. Many openings will also arise each year as experienced workers transfer to other jobs or retire. Millwrights who have completed apprenticeships and educational programs for industrial machinery repair will have the best chances of finding work.
