Meatcutters and Meat Packers
In recent years, the beef industry has been moving out of larger metropolitan areas such as Chicago; many meatcutting plants now are located near the commercial feedlots of Kansas, Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. The center of the pork industry continues to be in the Midwest, in the states of Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and Michigan; hog production is also very prevalent in North Carolina. Poultry processing jobs are most likely to be found in the southern and southeastern states, such as Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia and occasionally in the Atlantic states (such as Pennsylvania) and California and Ohio.
