Hotel Concierges

Job opportunities look bright for those interested in a concierge career. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that employment for concierges will grow by 23 percent through 2022, or much faster than the average for all careers. Busier lifestyles leave little time for mundane chores or last-minute details. Once shy of or intimidated by the concierge desk, savvy travelers now realize this is a free service available for their convenience. Some hotels have experimented with computerized kiosks advertising tours and restaurants. These displays are less personal, however, and since listings are in essence a paid advertisement, they do not provide a true recommendation. Hotel general managers realize that a concierge department can provide the ultimate in guest services; and it is that type of service that makes a hotel a true luxury hotel. Even many smaller hotels, especially those that cater to business travelers, are now providing concierge service.
