Exhibit Designers

The Occupational Outlook Handbook reports that employment for set and exhibit designers who work primarily at museums is expected to grow by 17 percent through 2020, or about as fast as the average for all careers. The number of private museums and of museums that specialize in a narrow topic area is rising, and these institutions are increasing the number of exhibit designers they have on staff. As public museums continue to face tight budgets, museum directors may choose to contract with independent exhibition and design companies to install new exhibits instead of retaining a staff of in-house designers.
