Event Planners

Employment for event planners is expected to grow by 44 percent through 2020, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, or much faster than the average for all careers. The introduction of new technology and the growth of international business have enabled more meetings to take place than ever before. Telecommunications technology, which can sometimes take the place of conferences, has been found to also spur growth in this field, as people who initially connect online then meet to further their business. Competition for jobs will be strong because many people view this career as interesting and rewarding. Opportunities will be best for those with a bachelor's degree, certification, experience in the field, and knowledge of virtual meeting software and social media.
