The Department of Labor predicts slower than the average employment growth for librarians overall through 2020, with better prospects for librarians in nontraditional settings. Many companies—including private corporations, nonprofit organizations, and consulting firms—are hiring librarians to help them organize and analyze their information. Since corporate librarians work in many different sectors of the economy, job prospects will vary based on the overall economic health of the industry in which the corporate librarian is employed. Corporate librarians with excellent research and analytical skills, and who are well versed in computer database and library automation systems will be in demand in the years to come.
