The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) predicts employment of film and video editors to grow 5 percent from 2010 to 2020, which is slower than the average for all occupations. Job growth is expected to be slow for camera operators as well because automatic camera systems reduce the need for camera operators at many TV stations. Also, some roles are being consolidated, which is cutting back on employment opportunities. For example, many field reporters are now editing their own work.
