Employment for cashiers is expected to grow more slowly than the average through 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Part of this sluggish forecast is due to the rising popularity of online shopping and self-service checkouts in retail establishments. However, the growth of huge retail shopping chains has helped fuel a constant need for cashiers. Moreover, due to a high turnover rate among cashiers, many jobs will become available as workers leaving the field are replaced. Each year almost one-third of all cashiers leave their jobs for various reasons.
