Carpenters remain the second largest group of workers in the building trades—there were more than one million carpenters in the United States in 2010. The vast majority of them work for contractors involved in building, repairing, and remodeling buildings and other structures. Manufacturing firms, schools, stores, and government bodies employ most other carpenters.
