The U.S. Department of Labor predicts good employment opportunities for nonfarm animal caretakers, with most job opportunities in pet stores. Competition for aquarist jobs will be keen, though. While terrestrial zoos have begun to add aquarium complexes to their campuses in growing numbers, an actual boom in the construction of new aquariums is unlikely at this time. Many aquarists advance to other positions, however, so openings do become available. Aquarists with advanced degrees and training who are willing to relocate will have the best employment opportunities.
