Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors

Employment of alcohol and drug abuse counselors is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. More job opportunities for counselors are expected due to recent federal legislation that mandates individual health coverage, which includes treatment for mental health issues and behavioral disorders. Previously uninsured people may seek counseling. Opportunities will be best in outpatient mental health and substance abuse centers and in nursing and residential care facilities.
