Employment in acting is expected to grow by 4 percent through 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. There are a number of reasons for this. The growth of satellite television, cable television, mobile media, and online media in the past decade has created a demand for more actors, especially as the cable networks produce more and more of their own programs and films. The rise of home entertainment options (such as direct-for-Web movies, mobile content produced for cell phones or other portable electronic devices, and DVD and online rentals) has also created new acting jobs, as more and more films are made strictly for the home market.
