Travel and leisure represent one of the largest service industries in the United States. Total 2013 expenditures for domestic and international travelers in the United States were more than $801 billion, according to the U.S. Travel Association, including food services, lodging, transportation, recreation and amusement, and retail sales. The International Trade Administration (ITA), a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce, reports that international visitors spent more than $180 billion in the United States in 2013. U.S. residents traveling abroad spent $123 billion in 2013.
