There are more than 1,000 medtech companies in the United States, according to Ernst & Young, with 51 percent headquartered in one of three states—California, Massachusetts, or Minnesota. Other states that employ a large number of workers include Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. There are also conglomerate companies that derive a large part of their revenues from medical technologies, but also manufacture other products. Examples of these companies include Abbot Diagnostics & Vascular, 3M Health Care, Corning Life Sciences, and Kimberly-Clark Health Care. More than 764,300 people work in the medtech industry.
