Employment for lawyers is expected to grow about 10 percent through 2022, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), but a growing number of law firm mergers and closures and other factors have created strong competition for top jobs. Despite these developments, demand for skilled lawyers remains high. Robert Half Legal, a national staffing firm, reports that “candidates in greatest demand—typically those that have experience in hot specialties and books of business they can bring with them—are receiving multiple offers, counteroffers, and signing bonuses.”
