The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) predicts average job growth for the electric power generation, transmission, and distribution industry through 2020. Most jobs will grow at a rate between 13 percent and 15 percent, mainly due to expanding power and gas transmission lines to growing cities, as well as replacing older power and transmission lines. Since 2008, this industry has struggled with the issue of replacing more than 50 percent of its employees who are of retirement age. To combat this problem, they have been hiring people in the most critical jobs, such as managers and engineers, and working with local schools to provide more trained graduates.
