Approximately 846,800 people were employed in the motor vehicle and parts manufacturing industry in January 2014, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. About 61 percent worked in firms that produced motor vehicle parts. Twnety-two percent worked in firms that assembled complete motor vehicles and 16 percent worked in firms that produced truck trailers, motor homes, travel trailers, campers, and car, truck, and bus bodies.
