Operating as a unit of US Airways Express, Piedmont Airlines serves about 55 cities in the eastern US and Canada, connecting those markets with US Airways hubs in Philadelphia and Charlotte, North Carolina. The regional carrier maintains a fleet of over 50 deHavilland Dash 8 turboprop aircraft, which are made by Bombardier. A subsidiary of US Airways Group, Piedmont Airlines is joined in the US Airways Express network by sister company PSA and several independent carriers. Overall, the US Airways Express carriers operate about 350 aircraft. Piedmont Airlines was founded in 1931 by Richard Henson and acquired by US Airways in 1987.
