This company is keeping the light on for North American travelers. A division of global hotel giant Accor, Accor North America operates a total of 17 upscale Sofitel and midscale Novotel hotels in the US and Canada. In order to reduce its debt and fund international expansion, parent Accor sold Accor North America's economy division, which included 1,100 US and Canadian hotels under the Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands, to private equity giant Blackstone Group for $1.9 billion in October 2012. Accor North America has operational and development teams in Dallas and New York.

Accor North America accounts for about 10% of the total revenue for its parent company.
Accor North America's 2012 divestiture of the Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands in the US and Canada follows a leadership shakeup that occurred in 2011 and subsequently a shift in strategy to reduce its real estate assets. As ownership of hotels is costly, the idea is to sell the properties to third-party buyers or franchisees but to sign back on as a property manager.
