SDI Technologies has been waking up the world for more than half a century. The company, founded in 1956 as Realtone Electronics, is licensed to make alarm clocks, clock radios, iPod accessories, and home and portable speaker systems under several well known brands, including iHome and Timex. Soundesign, its cornerstone brand, featured the industry's first telephone clock radio, and its iHome division manufactures audio accessories for Apple electronics. Affiliate KIDdesigns sells Barbie, Fisher-Price, and Matchbox electronic toys. The company has facilities throughout the US and Asia and sells its products in more than 45 countries via retailers such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Toys R Us.
Since it was founded, SDI has evolved its product line to stay current with top consumer trends. The firm got its start manufacturing transistor radios and eventually shifted its focus to Timex watches, hotel alarm clocks, and clock radio combinations (including telephone-clock radios and cassette player-clock radios). Its latest endeavor has been creating iHome brand dockable speakers for Apple's iPod, iPhone, and iPad, which has helped it to become a leading provider of speaker and alarm clock docks worldwide. (SDI's Apple-compatible products generate most of its revenue.)
The company is run by the founders' children and grandchildren, including president Ezra Ashkenazi and CEO Ely Ashkenazi.
