Verizon Pennsylvania provides telecommunications services for residents of the Keystone State. A subsidiary of New York City-based incumbent carrier Verizon Communications, it has about 9 million lines in service. Formed when Bell Atlantic bought GTE, Verizon Communications is a leading telecom services provider in the US with services in 29 states and Washington, DC, providing local exchange access, long-distance, Internet services, data services and systems integration, customer premises equipment (CPE), billing and collections, and inventory management services. Verizon Wireless, the company's joint venture with Vodafone Group, is the #2 US wireless provider (behind AT&T Mobility).
Verizon Pennsylvania has been pushing its FiOS TV service in an effort to compete with cable carriers by encouraging current business and consumer customers to add video entertainment services to their existing voice and Internet packages, as well as entice new subscribers. The company offers about 100 channels of digital television and a selection of video-on-demand titles.
