Horry Telephone Cooperative (HTC) is the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) serving rural Horry County in South Carolina (population: about 270,000). HTC offers local and long-distance voice service, Internet access, cable TV, home security service, and mobile phone service (through AT&T Mobility). It also offers business services such as remote recovery, LAN and WAN design, and firewall and network security and provides bundled telecommunications services to residential and business customers via its Bluewave fiber-to-the-home business. Membership in the cooperative is open to any customer who receives at least one of HTC's primary services.
HTC maintains nine offices throughout Horry County, in Myrtle Beach, Conway, Longs, Loris, and Murrells Inlet.
The company first brought phone service to the coastal area in the early 1950s with help from the Horry Electric Cooperative and the Rural Electrification Administration.
