These Dodgers try to be artful on the baseball diamond. The Los Angeles Dodgers sports franchise is one of the oldest and most storied franchises in Major League Baseball, boasting six World Series championships and 21 National League pennants. The team started in Brooklyn, New York in 1884 but moved west to Los Angeles in 1957. The Dodgers were the first team to break the color barrier with the signing of Jackie Robinson. The team plays home games at Dodger Stadium. In April 2012, a group led by former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson acquired the iconic Dodgers franchise from Frank McCourt for a record $2.15 billion.
The team has a large following in Southern California. The Dodgers' have a national following as well, which is why the team is popular with television executives in search of ratings.
Sales and Marketing
The Dodgers have marketing partnerships with dozens of corporations and brands. In 2013 Nexen Tire America partnered with the team to further its local marketing efforts.
Management has tried to bring in proven talent in recent years to add to the Dodgers' solid core of young players. The team has almost always made money -- even when the product on the field hasn't been great, much like the Chicago Cubs still bring in crowds and sell merchandise during losing seasons. However, the new ownership group has been making bold personnel moves signalling their intention to build a winning tradition again at Dodgers Stadium regardless of the costs.
