Jai-alai is the high life for this company. Florida Gaming
Corporation owns and operates two jai-alai frontons in Miami and
Ft. Pierce, Florida, that feature live jai-alai competition with
wagering. The gaming centers offer wagering on simulcast jai-alai
from other locations, as well as simulcast horse racing and dog
racing. In addition, its Miami location features a card room for
poker. Florida Gaming also owns Tara Club Estates, a real estate
development project near Atlanta. Chairman W. Bennett Collett
owns more than 45% of the company, partially through his
holding company Freedom Financial.
Florida Gaming is expanding its Miami facility with slot
machines after local voters approved a measure in 2008 allowing
additional gaming activities. It hopes to have the new gaming
facility operating during 2010.
