No, that's not a misspelling of "cable". Named after founder Harry Kable, Kable Media Services (KMS) distributes more than 400 magazines and periodicals for about 200 publishers throughout North America and, to a lesser extent, overseas. It prints and distributes publications such as Archie Comics and Ms. Magazine. Its Kable Fulfillment Services division provides magazine subscription services and merchandise fulfillment for publishers and marketers. The Kable Distribution Services division is a leading full service international periodical distributor. KMS has offices in New York, Illinois, Ohio, Colorado, California, and the UK. The company is a subsidiary of the AMREP Corp.
KMS's $92 million acquisition of Florida-based Palm Coast Data in early 2007 solidified its position as the second-largest provider of subscription services to magazine publishers in the US. Later in the year KMS cut about 75 jobs in its fulfillment services business as it integrated the two businesses. Taking the integration of Palm Coast Data and Kable Fulfillment Services a step further, parent AMREP announced in late 2008 that it would unify the two companies under the Palm Coast Data brand with operations in Florida. (The company expects total integration of the two operations to take about three years.)
KMS has also been expanding through the acquisition of existing businesses. In late 2008 the company purchased certain assets of Service Parts Supply, a product repackaging and fulfillment business, and Resource One Staffing, a temporary staffing agency. KMS also took over the lease to a warehouse used by the Ohio repackaging company and expects to use it in its business operations.
