A leading regional media holding company, Morris Communications oversees a portfolio of operations that includes publishing and broadcasting. Subsidiary The Globe Pequot Press publishes books focused on leisure and recreation; other publishing operations include regional and special interest magazines (Alaska magazine, Western Horseman) and a portfolio of visitor publications (Best Read Guides, Where Guestbook). Morris Communications also operates more than 30 radio stations in four states. The family-owned company was started by William Morris Jr. in 1945. The Morris family also owns newspaper publisher Morris Publishing Group.
Morris Communications sold its Fairway Outdoor Advertising unit to private equity firm ACON Investments in 2009. The Washington, DC-based investment concern merged Fairway Outdoor with Magic Media to form Fairway Magic Outdoor. Through the transaction, Morris Communications retained a minority stake in the enlarged display advertising business.
