Helen of Troy may have helped launch a thousand ships, but Waggener Edstrom helped launch Windows. Specializing in the needs of high-tech firms, Waggener Edstrom Worldwide offers its clients a palette of public relations services, including brand development, corporate communications, media relations, and strategic consulting. The independent agency operates from more than 15 offices in Oregon, Texas, and Washington, as well as Europe, and Asia. It has boasted such clients as Advanced Micro Devices, Microsoft, and T-Mobile USA. Waggener Edstrom Worldwide was founded by CEO Melissa Waggener in 1983. Partner Pam Edstrom joined the following year.
While the high-tech sector has seen its share of layoffs and business closures, Waggener Edstrom has remained one of the top independent PR firms in the country due in part to its blue chip clientele. The firm has also been branching out to serve clients outside the silicon world, including MasterCard and Paul Allen's Experience Music Project. The company has continued building its client portfolio within the biotech and scientific research realms.
In 2008 Waggener Edstrom beefed up its growing environment practice by hiring additional staff and landing clients including bioplastics maker NatureWorks and energy-tech company Ener1.
