Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation hopes it continues to live free or die hard. The company, a division of Fox Filmed Entertainment, produces, acquires, and distributes media conglomerate Twenty-First Century Fox's (formerly News Corp.) big budget motion pictures. In addition to working on films such as X-Men: First Class (co-produced with Marvel Entertainment) and Avatar, Twentieth Century Fox also distributes movies for Regency. The company has had a hand in two of the top five highest grossing US movies of all time: Avatar and Titanic, which it co-produced with Paramount Pictures. The studio also had a hand in another big money-maker, the Star Wars franchise, which it distributed for Lucasfilm.
Twentieth Century Fox Film distributes its content worldwide, with a focus on the US market for theatrical releases and the international market for DVD sales.
The company's parent, Twenty-First Century Fox, split itself into two publicly traded companies in mid-2013. The deal should not dramatically change the motion picture production organization.
Twentieth Century Fox Film tends to gamble on making big budget blockbusters including lots of action and mystery flims, rather than niche independent movies.
