When North Jersey Media Group reports on the news, it's for the record. Formerly Macromedia, the company is a leading newspaper publisher in New Jersey, with two daily newspapers (the Herald News and flagship publication The Record) and more than 40 weekly and bi-weekly community papers. North Jersey Media also publishes specialty monthly magazines (201) The Best of Bergen and Parent Paper. In addition, the company runs the NorthJersey.com website and other online properties, and has commercial printing operations. The Record was started as The Evening Record in 1895.
With the newspaper business suffering from declining readership and advertising revenue, the company has been focused on a series of cost-cutting measures that has included some job eliminations. North Jersey Media reduced the size of its commercial printing operation after UK-based Financial Times Group switched to a different printer.
The Borg family, led by chairman Malcolm Borg, has owned the business since 1930.
