The National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Services, or NESDIS, is your eye in the sky. It manages and gathers data from four satellites: Geostationary Operational, Polar Operational, Defense Meteorological, and National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). NPOESS is a plan to consolidate the Departments of
satellite programs to monitor the Earth and make long-term weather forecasts. NESDIS provides data and information services through about 12 centers including the data centers for climate, geophysical, ocean, and coastal information. The Geophysical Data Center includes environmental data from the surface of the Sun to the Earth's core.
