LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention helps to spread the teachings of Jesus. The company is a not-for-profit Christian publisher. It also sells Bibles, CDs, gifts, software, church furniture, signs, and other supplies. In addition to its 165 LifeWay Christian Stores located in more than 25 states, the retailer sells products online and through its catalog. LifeWay operates two of the nation's largest Christian conference facilities and summer camps. LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina and LifeWay Glorieta Conference Center in New Mexico together welcome some 2,000 conference and overnight guests each year. LifeWay was founded in 1891 by Dr. J.M. Frost.

Geographic Reach

Based in Nashville, LifeWay boasts offices and conference centers in three states: Tennessee, New Mexico, and North Carolina. In Nashville, the company has more than 1.3 million sq. ft. of office, retail, parking, conference, and warehouse space that covers 14.6 acres. As part of its operations, LifeWay has a 350,000-sq.-ft. warehouse on 44 acres in Lebanon, Tennessee, that supports the LifeWay Christian Stores the company operates nationwide in more than 25 states and extends its reach globally through its website and catalogs.

The B&H Publishing Group produces Bibles, books, Sunday school teaching materials, and audio and video products, which are sold to bookstores and other retailers. Its Holman Christian Standard Bible is one of the best-selling versions in the US. As part of its digital outreach efforts, Lifeway provides ministry services-related Digital Church, which can be accessed through Lifeway's website and offers an array of resources for ministries, including downloadable worship music and a video publishing utility.

Its Executive Communications and Relations division produces LifeWay's news and information services, directs corporate events, builds corporate relations, and supports the office of the president. It works with state conventions and other evangelical organizations, as well. The Technology division offers strategic, retail, enterprise, and Internet services. The company's Research and Ministry Development division is where LifeWay conducts its research and explores new ministry ventures it calls "blue oceans." LifeWay's Finance and Business Services division, which runs a conference center in Ridgecrest, North Carolina, oversees the company's financial policies and general accounting, as well as directs business services such as legal, investment, purchasing, real estate, strategic planning, corporate services, and human resources.

Chasing after promising growth in digital media, the organization in 2011 acquired a pair of Bible software companies -- WORDsearch and QuickVerse -- to increase its share of the digital media market in the Christian publishing niche. WORDsearch, based in Austin, Texas, offers more than 4,200 volumes of electronic books for Christian pastors, teachers, and laypeople through its WORDsearch Bible Explorer, LESSONmaker, WORDsearchToGo, and InstaView software. The QuickVerse software offers SermonBuilder, a resource for thousands of Bible-related stories, quotes, and anecdotes. As part of its growth strategy, LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention continues to seek opportunities to expand its digital media business.

It's also considering selling its 2,100-acre Glorieta Conference Center located in New Mexico. California evangelical educational institution Olivet University has stepped up as a potential purchaser. In the meantime, Olivet University rents portions of the facility to house 200 students, faculty, and staff.
