Educational Broadcasting Corporation

  • Overview

You might say this broadcaster has some public appeal for New Yorkers. Educational Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) operates two public broadcasting stations serving the New York City area. Its flagship Thirteen/WNET, the highest-rated public TV station in the US, offers a wealth of locally produced content focused on the Big Apple, as well as programming supplied by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Thirteen/WNET is also a major producer of shows for PBS that are distributed to other public TV stations. Thirteen/WNET began broadcasting in 1962.

Geographic Reach

In addition to Thirteen/WNET the non-profit corporation operates WLIW21, which serves audiences on Long Island.

EBC Thirteen/WNET also operates several digital channels and on-demand video services.

Thirteen/WNET has been restructuring operations and making reductions in staff to cut costs. EBC has also beefed up its fundraising efforts.
