In addition to checkout scanner data, it gathers information via consumer panels and offers test marketing services. IRI also offers business intelligence software and tools, and it advises customers on key strategies such as strategic pricing, growth and innovation, shopper marketing, and customer and channel management.
IRI has operations in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK, and the US.

IRI caters to 95% of the Fortune 100 and Fortune Global 500 and over 1,000 consumer packaged goods manufacturers and retailers. Clients have included Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Cadbury, and Unilever.
As the global economy finally picks up, IRI is looking to grow both organically and through acquisitions. In 2013 it expanded its geographic presence with the acquisition of Aztec, a provider of market measurement and related services for consumer packaged goods (CPG), liquor, and pharmaceutical manufacturers and retailers in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, and the UK. The transaction was the largest acquisition in IRI’s history.
