About Kaiser Associates

Little firm, big business

Founded in 1981, Kaiser Associates is a global boutique strategy consulting firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., with regional offices in Seattle, London, São Paulo, Cape Town, Toronto and Kuala Lumpur. Its business is divided into three main areas: corporate strategy, public sector strategy, and economic development.

Kaiser client base is equally global, and includes six of Fortune's 2012 Top 20 Most Admired Corporations, three of Forbes' 2011 Top 10 Global Leading Companies, and four members of the EuroSTOXX 50.

The firm's consultants offer services in a number of industries, including Aerospace & Defense, Consumer Goods & Retail, Financial Services & Payments, Healthcare, Industrials, Oil & Gas, Private Equity, Public Sector, and Technology & Telecommunications.

The firm is well poised for growth given long-standing relationships with leaders in multiple industries, a healthy backlog and pipeline and new marketing initiatives that are proving very successful. In anticipation of this growth, the firm moved to a new office in January 2014 that provides 25 percent more office capacity in a modern penthouse suite in the middle of DC's central business district.

Kaiser means king-of fact-based strategy

Kaiser's Corporate Strategy practice works with Fortune 500 and smaller companies to develop and execute business strategy. The company is probably best known for its Benchmarking capability, which it began in 1983. Kaiser also claims to have authored the first book on the subject-Beating the Competition: A Practical Guide to Benchmarking, published in 1985.

Reflecting its roots as a pioneer of Benchmarking, Kaiser specializes in fact-based and externally-driven strategy, performance improvement, and organizational design analysis for its clients. Kaiser's consultants use primary and secondary research to generate insights that are customized to each client's unique situation.

Whether entering a new market, improving competitiveness, building/renewing capabilities, or restructuring operations, Kaiser Associates supports and enables a wide range of strategic decisions. Examples of the kind of support the firm offers clients includes: dealing with changes in the market landscape; expansion into new or adjacent markets, channels, and geographies; translating a client's change in vision for their company into action; and aligning organizations to take account of market dynamics or changes in internal strategy.

Going public (sector)

In 2010, Kaiser Associates formally established a Public Sector practice to bring the firm's private sector management advisory capabilities to government entities that face similar strategic and operational challenges. The practice assists government organizations by combining relevant commercial best practices with proven strategic frameworks to increase efficiency and effectiveness. It supports clients with developing insight and solutions along three major functional areas: strategy and planning, organization development, and operational effectiveness.

Going the distance

With just over 100 consultants, Kaiser has a surprisingly global reach, and often boasts of its offices' international makeup and the number of languages spoken among its consultants. With its global headquarters based in Washington, D.C., Kaiser serves its global multinational clients from six regional hub offices. Its Washington, D.C. and Seattle offices cover North and Central America; London covers Europe and Eurasia; São Paulo covers South America; Cape Town covers Africa; and Kuala Lumpur covers Asia and the Middle East. Because of the global nature of Kaiser's clients, consultants in the different regional offices often partner together on projects for the same multinational client, with opportunities for short-term transfers to other offices.
