The interview process is similar to that of other firms. The callback interview involves meeting with several different attorneys and having lunch with a few associates. Like all big firms, S&L looks for excellent credentials--high grades and law review membership. The firm also gives a lot of weight to work experience prior to attending law school; the firm very much values industry knowledge, particularly in the banking and healthcare industries. Unlike other firms, S&L looks for candidates who want to be here for their entire career, and candidates have to convince the firm that they want to be here for the long haul.
