About Quarles & Brady LLP

Quarles & Brady has successfully combined its Midwestern roots with multi-region power through thriving health law and intellectual property practices.

Exciting Expansion

Quarles & Brady's Chicago office has grown in size to over 100 attorneys, up from 40 attorneys in 2006. In 2014, Quarles & Brady opened two new offices-in Indianapolis and Scottsdale. This comes directly on the heels of the firm's expansion into the Washington, D.C. market in 2013. With practice areas in business law, energy and environmental law, intellectual property, labor & employment, litigation & dispute resolution, real estate and others, the firm has landed recognizable clients such as the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, MillerCoors, and Wells Fargo Bank. The firm is strong in litigation-it has acted as defense counsel in massive class action and product liability suits involving asbestos, tobacco, tires, vaccines and forklifts. Quarles & Brady also has a thriving bankruptcy practice, which has handled airlines, casinos, resorts and dot-com companies.

Taking the longer view of history, the modern iteration of Quarles & Brady was formed from a 1974 merger of two longstanding Milwaukee practices: Brady, Tyrrell, Cotter & Cutler and Quarles, Herriott, Clemons, Teschner & Noelke. In 2000, the firm added to its bases in Illinois and Wisconsin by merging with Arizona's Streich Lang, opening offices in Phoenix and Tucson. The firm also has two well-established offices in Florida.

Leader in Diversity

Recognized nationally and locally for its diversity initiatives, Quarles & Brady sponsors diversity scholarships and internships and maintains a "Women in Leadership" program. The Firm has been named the "Best Big Law Firm for Female Attorneys" by Law360. For several years, including 2017, the firm has been named a "Best Law Firm for Women" by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers. In 2017 Quarles & Brady obtained Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) Gold Standard recertification for the seventh straight year. Quarles & Brady also received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ inclusivity in the workplace equality. This year the firm sent 5 1st year law students to the 1L Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity Scholars (LCLD) retreat in May.

Strategic Alliances and Political Connections

Quarles & Brady is a member of United States Law Firm Group, a consortium of 18 mid-sized law firms. The firm has also forged an alliance with the Capitol Group, a Wisconsin lobbying firm. Its contact with legislators and policymakers, however, doesn't stop there-Tony Earl, former Democratic governor of Wisconsin, is a retired partner of the firm. Wisconsin Democratic Congressman Ron Kind also once graced the halls of Quarles & Brady.

In addition to notable alumni, the firm is currently home to a political heavy hitter. Illinois State Senator Kwame Raoul is a member of the firm's Health Law Practice Group. He has extensive experience in higher education, labor and employment and litigation law. He has also represented local governmental entities in finance and other matters. Raoul has represented the 13th district since 2004, when he was appointed to fill the vacancy of then-U.S. Senator Barack Obama and, since then, has successfully advanced legislation promoting pension reform, economic development, domestic violence prevention and political reform. He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Pensions and Investment Committee and Senate Committee on Redistricting, as vice-chairman of the Senate Criminal Law Committee and on the Judiciary Financial Institutions Committees.
