Commitment to Diversity:
Our mission to build and retain a diverse team of lawyers at Morgan Lewis starts at the top. Our Chair, Francis M. Milone, and our Chair-elect, Jami Wintz McKeon, set the tone by personal example and drive our diversity and inclusion efforts. When Ms. McKeon becomes Chair on October 1, 2014, Morgan Lewis will be the largest Firm in the world to have a female chair, and one of only a few in the Am Law 50 to be led by a woman.
Through the years, Morgan Lewis has established a number of internal and external programs aimed at continually promoting diversity among our ranks and across the profession. As a Firm, we emphasize teamwork, collegiality, and excellence. We accomplish this by drawing upon the strengths of knowledgeable individuals who represent a variety of viewpoints, experiences, and backgrounds.
We believe this not only enhances our ability to deliver optimal results for our clients but, more broadly, serves the entire legal community. Supported by a full-time director of diversity and other diversity committee members, Morgan Lewis has established a number of internal and external programs aimed at continually promoting diversity among its ranks and across the profession. Within the firm we ensure that Morgan Lewis’s commitment to having an open, welcoming environment is communicated clearly and often. Some of our efforts outside the firm focus on educational programs that foster diversity in the profession at the earliest stage. We also have built recruiting and mentoring programs for lawyers and non-legal staff, and we continually strive to maintain an atmosphere that allows for professional and personal balance.

Commitment to Pro Bono:
Morgan Lewis recognizes the great unmet need for pro bono legal services in the communities in which it practices and understands that the promise of equal justice can only be achieved if legal services are made available to those who are unable to afford them. The firm has a long history of service to traditionally underrepresented members of society, and prides itself on its clear institutional commitment to stimulating and supporting pro bono work by its lawyers. We recognize and endorse the basic responsibility and ethical obligation of each lawyer to provide public interest legal services and encourage the firm’s lawyers to fulfill that responsibility.
Accordingly, Morgan Lewis is a signatory to the Pro Bono Institute’s Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge and has pledged to annually contribute, at a minimum, an amount of time equal to 3% of the firm’s total billable hours to pro bono work. In addition, Morgan Lewis has formalized an expectation that every firm lawyer takes on a pro bono matter and contributes at least 20 hours to that matter during each calendar year. Further, Morgan Lewis is committed to providing pro bono clients representation that is—in all respects—on par with the representation provided to the firm’s other clients. Morgan Lewis does not distinguish between pro bono hours and other billable hours in assessing the performance of its lawyers, including for purposes of compensation.
The firm’s award-winning Pro Bono Practice is divided into five substantive practice areas: Immigration, Non-Profit, Families and Kids, Public Benefits, and Civil Liberties.
