Miles & Stockbridge P.C. is a Maryland-based firm with over
200 lawyers stationed in offices throughout the Mid-Atlantic
region. Its lawyers help global, national, local and emerging
business clients. The firm solves its clients' most important
problems relating to 20 practice areas, more than 100 practice
focus areas and 16 industries, including manufacturing and
distribution, real estate and finance and capital markets.
Baltimore Roots
In 1932, Clarence W. Miles began an illustrious legal career by
opening a law firm in Baltimore, Maryland. His career spanned
decades and culminated with his appointment as the chairman of
Martin Marietta, a predecessor to the Lockheed Martin Corporation.
He was also the first president of the Baltimore Orioles. In 1953,
Enos S. Stockbridge joined Miles in his law practice. They were
considered an odd pairing, as few expected Miles, a staunch
Democrat, to have a Republican law partner. Regardless of political
differences, the firm thrived, and it now boasts six offices across
Maryland, as well as offices in Washington, DC and Northern
Virginia.
In 2013, the firm's Baltimore headquarters relocated from the
landmark Bank of America building, where it resided for more than
80 years, to dynamic new space in the signature Transamerica Tower
at 100 Light Street in the heart of the city's central business
district and across from Baltimore's famed Inner Harbor. The new
offices were designed with the culture of the firm in mind--to
enhance interaction, collaboration and exceptional client
service.
According to firm management, although the firm has many
different offices, it has purposefully tried to remain "humanly
scaled" and not become a "mega" law firm like many others.
Nationally, Miles & Stockbridge has a reputation for working
with clients in key industries that include manufacturing and
distribution, real estate and finance and capital markets. Its
clients run the gamut from small, family-owned businesses to
corporate giants such as Bank of America, Stanley Black &
Decker and US Foods, Inc.
Community Commitment
Miles & Stockbridge encourages every lawyer in every office
to contribute meaningfully to organizations that enhance community
life. The firm works closely with prominent public interest
organizations, such as the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, that
provide legal services to disadvantaged members of local
communities. The firm's lawyers created and staff a pro bono
clinic at Chase Brexton Health Services, Inc., a non-profit
organization providing health services to underserved
clients. In addition, attorneys at Miles & Stockbridge
work nationally and internationally to help families regain custody
of missing and abducted children. Additionally, the lawyers in the
Domestic Violence Pro Bono Group help victims of domestic violence
obtain final protective orders.
