We invest in our lawyers by providing unparalleled professional development opportunities. This starts with our immersive summer program, which includes a summer-long, in-depth training program walking summer associates through the entire life cycle of a company. First-year transactional associates broaden their perspectives through our 12-month rotation program through three practice groups while as well as our Deals@Milbank training, which provides a broad base of training for junior associates over their first three years. Litigators hone their advocacy and communication skills through our Advocacy@Milbank training series, another comprehensive, multi-level program featuring hands-on, interactive workshops and, an intensive writing program.

For mid-levels in the third year and up, our Milbank@Harvard program offers bespoke, best-in-class training unlike anything offered by other firms, with intensive weeks spent in Cambridge each year learning from renowned Harvard Law and Business School professors.

Our pro bono work is an essential part of this commitment. We believe that access to legal counsel, regardless of ability to pay, is a fundamental right of all people.  We believe that access to legal counsel, regardless of ability to pay, is a fundamental right of all people. We expect each of our lawyers to commit at least 25 hours to pro bono a year – most greatly exceed this amount.  Our pro bono projects, which often center around helping children with asylum, education, appeals and resentencing, help sharpen our lawyers’ skills while also serving our communities.

Looking Ahead

We’re always looking for ways to innovate and drive our business forward. Relocating to the ambitious new Hudson Yards development from our longtime Financial District base in late 2018, we’re broadening our horizons with a 21st-century work space customized for the Milbank of tomorrow.
