About Michelman & Robinson, LLP

With nearly 80 attorneys across five offices (three in California, one in New York, one in Chicago), Michelman & Robinson, LLP (M&R) is focused on the future and poised for sustained growth.  Representing clients across an array of industries and with an impressive string of significant victories as of late, this thriving firm continues to expand its national presence. To its credit, M&R's management encourages associates to be an integral part of the growth strategy, providing the mentoring and resources to make it happen.

Small Firm, Big Impact

Don't let size fool you. While M&R may be a smaller firm than many of its competitors-it has only been operating since 1999, after all-that hasn't stopped it from being a major contender for high-profile work in a range of practice areas.  Superstar partners and co-founders Sanford L. Michelson, a litigator, and Mark B. Robinson, a transactional lawyer, have added to their team at a rapid pace. M&R's well-known insurance, hospitality, advertising and digital media, class action and complex litigation, commercial and business litigation, and corporate finance practices stand out from the crowd. And while it continues to be primarily West-Coast based, M&R's clients-which include Fortune 500 companies, insurance-related entities, advertising and digital media firms, hotels and restaurants, financial institutions, high-tech and industrial enterprises, real-estate developers, government agencies, entrepreneurs in major and emerging industries, educational and philanthropic institutions, individuals, and small and mid-sized businesses-are all over the globe.

Insurance Insiders

M&R is perhaps best known for its representation of private equity sponsored insurance company consolidators, and three of its long-time clients are now among the top 15 insurance brokers in the U.S. While mergers & acquisitions, as well as regulatory work, has been the firm's bread and butter in this space, M&R also prides itself on handling litigation, employment and intellectual property matters for these billion dollar acquirers, among many others in the insurance space.

Advertising and Digital Media Mavens

Advertising, creative and media-buying agencies, advertisers, media outlets, ad-tech companies, Internet publishers and other content providers rely on M&R to keep pace with the ever-changing advertising and digital media landscape.

Because M&R is an industry-focused firm, M&R's attorneys immerse themselves in their clients' world, and are involved with some of the market's preeminent trade associations and events, including 4A's, Digital Place-based Advertising Association (DPAA), Direct Response Marketing Association (DRMA), Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Advertising Week, 212NYC and ThinkLA, among others. Because of knowledge such as this, M&R is a go-to firm for these types of companies, handling matters (litigation and transactional) as diverse and complex as the advertising and digital media industries themselves.

Hospitable Attorneys

M&R has achieved recognition in the Golden State and beyond for its success in counseling, litigating and handling transactional matters in the hospitality industry. From employment disputes to advice on business start-up, day-to-day operations, and corporate governance, and seemingly everything in between, M&R's hospitality practice is robust with a multi-disciplined group of lawyers. In 2016, M&R client closed escrow on a $1.8 million dollar restaurant purchase of assets from another restaurant company.

Class Action Stars

M&R has become well known for its complex litigation experience and class action prowess, defending more than 50 class actions in the past decade. The firm has successfully defended companies in a number of industries against class actions alleging unfair business practices, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets, wrongful termination, and wage and hour and benefit violations.

Simply the Best
Best Lawyers Magazine made it official - again - the best lawyers work at M&R. Mona Hana was named "Lawyer of the Year" and Sanford Michelman, Dana Kravetz, Christopher D'Angelo, first time honoree Adam Solomon and - once more for good measure - Mona Hana were selected as "Best Lawyers." It gets even better. M&R was recently ranked one of the Orange County Business Journal's Best Places to Work in Orange County; recognition that shines a bright light on the firm's awesome workplace and culture.

Here They Grow Again

Over the past few months, the ranks at M&R have gotten even bigger, as the firm added partner Scott Lyon, a cybersecurity guru, to its Orange County lineup, and its New York outlet has been boosted by the arrival of a group of top-tier lawyers formerly of Phillips Nizer: Jon Brooks, David Chidekel, David Pellegrino, Jeremy Richardson, Marc Zimmerman, and Kathryn Lundy. Brooke Haley, joined M&R in the Big Apple as well. The firm's Chicago group said hello to global finance partner Umera Ali, and the Los Angeles headquarters welcomed six new attorneys.

March 2017
Moving and Shaking in the Media Biz

M&R represented MediaLink, a leading strategic business advisory and development firm, in a major deal - its $200M+ sale to Ascential plc, a public business-to-business media company. By way of the transaction, which generated significant news coverage (Wall Street Journal, etc.), Ascential added MediaLink to a growing roster of assets: Money 20/20 (the UK's largest trade show), the prestigious Cannes Lions festival for the branded communications industry, EMAP (a content and subscriptions business) and fashion-trend forecaster WSGN, among them.
