Texas firm McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore was founded in 1927 and is known primarily for its influential legislative and government law practice. The firm serves Fortune 100 companies, government bodies and nonprofits, and its attorneys have made lists like Best Lawyers 2013, Texas Super Lawyers 2012 and Texas Rising Stars 2012.

Capitol Lawyers

Texas may be home of the Outlaws, but McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore is firmly on the side of the law. Its Legislative & Governmental Relations practice has figured prominently in Texas governmental and political history. The firm has helped to develop campaign ethics and finance laws, formulate the state tax system, revise finance codes, and create the Lower Colorado River Authority and some of the state's first electrical initiatives. Firm attorneys have also drafted legislation and served as policy counsel to top officials, legislators, governors, attorneys general and state Supreme Court justices.

Tending to Texans

McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore works to make Texas a better state for everyone. The firm co-founded Austin Lawyers Care, now known as Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, a nonprofit organization that provides pro bono services to low-income clients needing civil justice representation and counsel. Name partner Lloyd Lochridge helped found and is a board member of Texas C-BAR, which gives pro bono counsel to nonprofit organizations dedicated to bettering living conditions in low-income communities in the state. The firm sponsors an Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Law at the University of Texas School of Law, and firm employees are involved in community organizations like the Austin Children's Museum, the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, Hospice Austin and the Texas State History Museum Foundation. Partners and associates alike do pro bono work such as assisting United Cerebral Palsy of Texas in corporate restructuring, obtaining federal housing funds to help provide affordable housing for people with disabilities, leading legal education workshops for nonprofit staff, drafting closing documents to sell affordable housing and providing tax law advice with C-BAR.

On, Within and Across the Border

Border state means cross-border law. McGinnis, Lochridge & Kilgore has a strong place in Texas law, but the state's geographical position at the southern border of the U.S. allows the firm to do work across state (and country) lines as well. Partners at the firm have been appointed to organizations like the University of Houston Law Center for U.S. and Mexican Law, the first research center in the country to study Mexican law and legal relations between Mexico and the U.S., and the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute Advisory Council.
