Latham & Watkins 1L Fellowship Program offers a unique summer employment opportunity for students who have just finished their first year of law school to gain valuable professional experience, mentoring, and training.  Applications for our 2017 1L Fellowship Program will be accepted beginning December 1, 2016 and the deadline to apply is early January.  Learn more about 1L Fellowship Program, including information on how to apply, here.

Latham & Watkins 2L Diversity Scholars Program awards a progressive scholarship of $25,000 (less applicable taxes and withholdings).  The first $10,000 of the scholarship will be paid upon starting as a summer associate at Latham & Watkins, and the balance of $15,000 will be paid upon starting as a full-time associate at the firm.  Our 2L Diversity Scholars are also invited to participate in our annual Diversity Leadership Academy and receive valuable networking, training, and mentoring opportunities.  For more information on this program, including eligibility, the application process, and deadlines, please click here

Latham & Watkins Law Preview Diversity Scholarship helps students get off to a good start during their first year of law school by offering scholarships to select students from Georgetown University Law Center, Northwestern University Law School, New York University School of Law, and Stanford Law School to attend Law Preview’s week-long law school preparation courses.

Latham SEO

Latham & Watkins partners with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) to host interns in our offices during the summer prior to their first year of law school.  SEO organizes internships for talented, underrepresented students of color who have been accepted to top law schools.

The Diversity Leadership Committee (“DLC”) is responsible for spearheading the firm’s global diversity strategy and initiatives.  Its mission is to strengthen and promote the firm as a workplace where the best and brightest attorneys from all groups, including those traditionally underrepresented in our profession, excel and find the opportunity and support to fulfill their potential to become firm and industry leaders.

The Women Enriching Business (“WEB”) Committee focuses on addressing the business challenges and opportunities unique to women lawyers and to existing and prospective women clients.  WEB promotes women in business by creating broader networks and productive business relationships and by attracting and investing in the long-term success of women.

12 Women 's Leadership

Women’s Leadership Academy (“WLA”) provides tailored training for senior women associates and women partners in the areas of leadership, communication, self-promotion, and business development.  The WLA builds a strong community and invaluable support networks among our women attorneys.

13 Mpac

The Multicultural Promotion and Attainment Coalition (“MPAC”) is an associate-driven, grassroots initiative that is open to all attorneys.  MPACs are local office groups focused on supporting the recruitment, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys through a variety of internal and external professional, educational, and social activities.

Our global Affinity Groups—for Asian, Black, Hispanic/Latin American, LGBT, Working Parents, and Women lawyers—design and implement programs that support affinity group members and help foster an inclusive culture throughout the firm.

Our Global Mentoring Program provides all first-year and new lateral associates with a formal mentor.  Many of our offices also provide expanded mentoring programs for associates through their fifth year of practice.

Our Commitment to Pro Bono

Pro bono is a hallmark of our firm culture. We award hour for hour credit for pro bono matters with no cap. In 2015, with more than 2,500 lawyers, paralegals, summer associates, trainees and professional staff in our offices across 13 countries participating in our program, Latham provided more than 188,000 hours of free legal services. Since 2000, Latham has provided more than US $1.2 billion in free legal services to the disadvantaged and the nonprofit sector, totaling more than 2.7 million pro bono hours.
